SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jacqueline Louise "Jacquie" Nichols of New York City, formerly of Peoria, who passed away on September 5, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Jacquie Nichols was born in Peoria on May 29, 1942; she grew up in the Averyville neighborhood, attending Kingman Grade School and Woodruff High School; she pursued a double major and earned degrees in Art Education and Home Economics from Western Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Jacquie Nichols had a gift for music; she formed a singing duo with her sister, Judy, as children, and they performed together for many years, winning awards and trophies along the way; they were part of the WMBD Juvenile Theatre group, and they sang on the radio and on television; and

WHEREAS, Jacquie Nichols was an art teacher for several years in Illinois; she then left teaching and moved to Manhattan in New York City, where she completed nurses' training at New York City Hospital; her nursing duties took her everywhere from London to Egypt; she then made another career change, opening the JB Plaza International Trading Co. and the Skyview Deli with her business partner; her many interests and innate curiosity led to her to selling and managing real estate in Maine and New York before she retired in May 2021; and

WHEREAS, Jacquie Nichols had an unquenchable thirst for conversation and a fascination for all things mechanical; her enthusiasm for books, magazines, cats, family, gadgets, and New York City kept her busy and productive her entire life; she will be remembered for her energy and her great generosity to everyone she met; and

WHEREAS, Jacquie Nichols was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Laverna (Short Lotze) Nichols, and her brother, Jerry E. Nichols; and

WHEREAS, Jacquie Nichols is survived by her sister, Judith (Alan) Aaron; her sister-in-law, Barbara Nichols; several nieces and a nephew; and her great-nieces and great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jacqueline Louise "Jacquie" Nichols and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jacquie Nichols as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
