| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Clyde D. Meier Jr., who passed away on |
| 4 | | October 9, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Clyde Meier was born near Booneville, Arkansas to |
| 6 | | Mabel and Clyde D. Meier Sr. on July 6, 1925; his childhood was |
| 7 | | spent in Arkansas and Oklahoma before he eventually settled in |
| 8 | | Silvis, where he attended United Township High School in East |
| 9 | | Moline and was president of the class of 1943; he served in the |
| 10 | | U.S. Army Air Corps, where he trained as a navigator; after |
| 11 | | World War II, he attended Augustana College in Rock Island; he |
| 12 | | married Mary E. Termont in 1948 and earned a Bachelor of Arts |
| 13 | | in 1949; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Clyde Meier taught fifth, sixth, seventh, and |
| 15 | | eighth grades in a two-room schoolhouse in Barstow beginning |
| 16 | | in 1949; he became the principal of Wells School in East Moline |
| 17 | | in 1953; while serving as principal, he earned a Master of |
| 18 | | Science in Education from Western Illinois University; in |
| 19 | | 1962, he began serving as principal of Ridgewood School, and, |
| 20 | | in 1974, he became principal of McKinley School; from 1975 |
| 21 | | through the end of his career in 1986, he served as the |
| 22 | | assistant superintendent and business manager of the East |
| 23 | | Moline school district; for many years during the summer, he |

| 1 | | also worked as a surveyor for the City of Bettendorf, Iowa; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Clyde Meier was a member of St. Anne's Catholic |
| 3 | | Church in East Moline and was active in the Illinois Retired |
| 4 | | Teachers Association; he was a compassionate and generous man |
| 5 | | who never spoke ill of anyone; he and Mary enjoyed traveling, |
| 6 | | both abroad and in the United States, as well as attending |
| 7 | | plays and concerts; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Clyde Meier was preceded in death by his wife, |
| 9 | | Mary; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Helen (Suchy); and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Clyde Meier is survived by his sons and |
| 11 | | daughters-in-law, Paul and Linda Meier, David and Sally Meier, |
| 12 | | and Alan and Mary Meier; his grandchildren, Meghan (Anthony) |
| 13 | | Ross, Alison (Joel Gentes) Meier, Erin Meier, Leah (Lance) |
| 14 | | Kennedy, Curtis (Kimberly) Meier, Brendan (Rebecca) Meier, and |
| 15 | | Travis Meier; his great-grandchildren, Landon and Simon Ross, |
| 16 | | Kellan, Evan, and Declan Kennedy, Rhodes and Xavier Gentes, |
| 17 | | and Nolan and Adeline Meier; and many beloved nieces and |
| 18 | | nephews; therefore, be it

| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 21 | | Clyde D. Meier Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 22 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
