SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Chapman, M.D. of Jensen Beach, Florida, formerly of Springfield, who passed away on October 13, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chapman was born to Erskine and Helen (Naisen) Chapman in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 20, 1952; he graduated from the University of Colorado in 1970 and obtained his medical degree from Southern Illinois University in 1982, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chapman practiced in the Springfield area where he delivered thousands of babies across two generations; he was passionately dedicated to his patients, which was evident in his empathetic approach to their care; he felt it was a privilege to be there for his patients at such pivotal moments in their lives and considered medicine a calling rather than a career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chapman served as the Chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Memorial Medical Center for over 18 years as well as serving as Medical Staff President for two years; he enjoyed mentoring and teaching many students along the way; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chapman enjoyed sharing his passion for learning, food, music, golf, and travel; he had a lifelong love of reading and cherished quick wit and unusual stories; he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and could often be found in the kitchen, cooking and listening to his favorite music and urging friends and family to try the new foods that delighted him; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chapman is survived by his wife, Christine Statz Chapman; his three children, Collin Chapman, Elizabeth (Jonathan) LeRoux, and Julia (Adam Rafford) Chapman; his three stepchildren, Alexandra (Kekoa) Kuamo'o, Amanda (Adam) Curl, and Jessica Psihas; his six grandchildren, Isabelle and Asher LeRoux, Aria and Henry Kuamo'o, and Freddy and Sam Curl; his siblings, Janet (Ray) Lees and Richard (Kathy) Chapman; his uncle, Jack Chapman; and his aunt, Nellie Bass; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Chapman, M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Chapman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
