| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Nancy Mackiewicz of Springfield, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on September 18, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz was born to Chester Mackiewicz | ||||||
| 6 | and Joyce Brundle Mackiewicz in Detroit, Michigan on October | ||||||
| 7 | 19, 1958; she graduated from Ferndale High School in 1976; she | ||||||
| 8 | earned her Bachelor of Science from Grand Valley State College | ||||||
| 9 | in Grand Rapids; she eventually received her master's degree | ||||||
| 10 | in Geology from Northern Illinois University; she married | ||||||
| 11 | Roger Kennedy in Springfield on July 25, 1992; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz entered civil service with the | ||||||
| 13 | Illinois Office of the Attorney General to assist the | ||||||
| 14 | regulations and controls put into place to protect the | ||||||
| 15 | environment; she later joined Goodwin & Broms as an | ||||||
| 16 | environmental geologist; after G & B was sold, she was hired as | ||||||
| 17 | a branch manager by Superior Environmental in 2003, where she | ||||||
| 18 | tackled the day-to-day front-line work until her retirement in | ||||||
| 19 | October 2019; she lived a life of public service and | ||||||
| 20 | successfully managed a few thousand site actions throughout | ||||||
| 21 | her career; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz co-authored a journal article | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | that coined the term "Cyclopel", which was a new phrase in the | ||||||
| 2 | lexicon of geology that describes the cyclic deposition of | ||||||
| 3 | sediments from the face of glaciers and is still in common | ||||||
| 4 | usage today; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz was a member of the Springfield | ||||||
| 6 | Art Association; she was an accomplished jeweler and | ||||||
| 7 | ceramicist; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz acquired a love of nature from | ||||||
| 9 | summers camping with her family throughout Michigan and | ||||||
| 10 | Canada, and her favorite spot was her grandfather's home on | ||||||
| 11 | the shores of Lake Ontario; she traveled to Europe as part of | ||||||
| 12 | her studies and loved to explore hidden gems in Illinois, | ||||||
| 13 | Wisconsin, and the rest of the U.S. with her husband; she loved | ||||||
| 14 | her cats, Buster and Hemingway, pottery, her friends and | ||||||
| 15 | family, and traveling and exploring the back roads with her | ||||||
| 16 | husband; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 18 | parents; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Nancy Mackiewicz is survived by her husband of 29 | ||||||
| 20 | years, Roger Kennedy; her sisters, Stefanie (Dennis III) | ||||||
| 21 | Wagner, Susan (George Jr.) Ambrozy, and Jennifer (Stephen | ||||||
| 22 | Blamires) Mackiewicz; her beloved niece, Lee Ambrozy; her | ||||||

| 1 | nephews, George Ambrozy III, Dennis Wagner IV, Jeffrey Wagner, | ||||||
| 2 | and David Wagner; her grandnephew, Heron Ambrozy Fu; and her | ||||||
| 3 | stepmother, Amelia Mackiewicz; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 6 | Nancy Mackiewicz and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 7 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 8 | further
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the family of Nancy Mackiewicz as an expression | ||||||
| 11 | of our deepest sympathy.
