| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Joan Blessington Snyder of |
| 4 | | Chillicothe, who passed away on October 22, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder was born in Clinton, Iowa to Raymond |
| 6 | | and Norma (Petrehn) Blessington on September 18, 1951; she |
| 7 | | married Stan Snyder in Peoria on May 16, 1987; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder was diagnosed with Parkinson's |
| 9 | | disease in 1991; from that point on, she was extremely active |
| 10 | | in raising awareness and funds for the Parkinson's community; |
| 11 | | she created the annual fundraiser Shake, Rattle & Roll for |
| 12 | | Parkinson's and was the founder of the Central Illinois |
| 13 | | Advocates for Lives Interrupted by Parkinson's Support |
| 14 | | Organization (CALIPSO); she also co-wrote the book Voices from |
| 15 | | the Parking Lot in 2002 and co-produced the CD Voices from the |
| 16 | | Dreams We Share in 2011; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder's received a number of accolades for |
| 18 | | her dedication and efforts towards Parkinson's awareness and |
| 19 | | research, including the 25 Women in Leadership Award in 2002; |
| 20 | | she was officially recognized by the Illinois State Senate for |
| 21 | | 15 years of Parkinson's Advocacy in 2013, having raised more |
| 22 | | than $100,000; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder was a popular bartender at Peoria |
| 2 | | Pizza Works in the late 1970s and early 1980s; she was known |
| 3 | | for her love of music and her legendary parties; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder was brave, resilient, and extremely |
| 5 | | strong-willed; with her family, friends, and Catholic faith, |
| 6 | | she was able to fight Parkinson's disease for over 30 years; |
| 7 | | and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder was preceded in death by her parents |
| 9 | | and her brother-in-law, Algird Kapacinskas; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Joan Snyder is survived by her husband, Stan; her |
| 11 | | daughter, Allison Sterling (Jim); her son, Mitchell "Mitch" |
| 12 | | (Nicole LaMantia); her granddaughters, Josephine and Emilia |
| 13 | | Sterling, with a third granddaughter expected to arrive in |
| 14 | | January to Mitch and Nicole; her siblings, Jim Blessington, |
| 15 | | Janis Hawkins (Randy), Regina Harris (Scott), Joyce |
| 16 | | Kapacinskas, and Jeff Blessington; her brother-in-law, Steve |
| 17 | | Snyder (Lisa); and her niece, Genna Hawkins; therefore, be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | Joan Blessington Snyder and extend our sincere condolences to |
| 21 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
