| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Mary E. Ferry of Waukegan, who passed |
| 4 | | away on October 29, 2021 at the age of 100; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ferry was born to Louis and Clementina |
| 6 | | Zannini on October 15, 1921; she started first grade not |
| 7 | | speaking English and graduated valedictorian from Holy Child |
| 8 | | High School in 1939; she graduated from the University of |
| 9 | | Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1949 with a double major; she was |
| 10 | | the first female president of the Newman Club, now St. John's |
| 11 | | Catholic Newman Center, at the University of Illinois; she |
| 12 | | married the love of her life, Lawrence Ferry, on June 3, 1952, |
| 13 | | and they celebrated 65 years together before his passing; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ferry worked from the time she was little, |
| 15 | | starting in her parents' restaurants, until her retirement |
| 16 | | from Lake County in the late 1980s; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ferry was a poet and writer and a wildly |
| 18 | | successful crossword puzzle solver; she had an incredible |
| 19 | | sense of humor, a clever wit, a caring hospitality, and a ready |
| 20 | | smile; she was gracious and kind and truly lived her faith and |
| 21 | | deeply loved her family; she was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan ever |
| 22 | | since she met Gaby Hartnett in the 1920s and was thrilled to |
