SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Olof Evald "Olle" Johnson of Moline, who passed away on December 12, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was born to Olof F. and Ingrid Anderson Johnson in Moline on December 1939; he graduated from Moline High School and Augustana College; he married Caran Louise Hylander at Gloria Dei Lutheran in Providence, Rhode Island in 1968; he served in the U.S. Army Security Agency and was assigned to Kagnew Station, a remote listening post in Ethiopia; and

WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was employed with International Harvester at the Farmall Plant for 20 years; he then worked as an intelligence specialist for the U.S. Army Industrial Operations Command at the Rock Island Arsenal and then as the special security officer for the U.S. Army Sustainment Command; he retired in 2007 after 24 years of government service; and

WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran in Moline; he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline for 56 years; and

WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was proud of his Swedish heritage; he was widely traveled, taking annual summer camping trips with his family across the U.S.A. and having traveled to 40 countries on five continents; he took great pride in enhancing and maintaining his yard, and he enjoyed sitting under the pergola after dinner to be entertained by hummingbirds and the occasional deer; he also enjoyed fly fishing, taking annual trips to the Bennett Spring State Park, riding his Harley motorcycle, shooting sports, and bicycling; he spent his retirement years enjoying his family and friends, traveling, and spending ten wonderful winters in The Villages, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Olof Johnson was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Phillips, and his nephew, John Phillips; and

WHEREAS, Olof Johnson is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Caran; his son, Karl; his son, Kai, and his daughter-in-law, Tricia; his grandsons, Jake and Dane; his nieces and nephew, Kristina Napiorkowski, Kirsten Paluska, and Ken Hylander; and his loving family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Olof Evald "Olle" Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Olof Johnson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
