|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of John Edward "Jack" Sankey Jr. of |
4 | | Springfield, who passed away on November 7, 2021 at the age of |
5 | | 101; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Jack Sankey was born to John Edward Sankey Sr. |
7 | | and Katherine (Chatterton) Sankey on August 11, 1920; he was a |
8 | | native of Springfield; he attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic |
9 | | Grade School, Springfield High School, and Springfield Junior |
10 | | College; he completed his education at Hobart College in |
11 | | Geneva, New York; he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941 |
12 | | to 1946, spending the majority of that time in the Pacific; he |
13 | | married Shirley Jean Studenroth in Springfield on May 10, |
14 | | 1957, and she preceded him in death on November 20, 2004; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Jack Sankey co-founded the Sankey Brothers, Inc. |
16 | | Construction Company, where he served as president until it |
17 | | was sold in 1986; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Jack Sankey was an active member of the |
19 | | Springfield community; he served on several boards of |
20 | | directors, including the LPGA Rail Charity Classic, the |
21 | | Springfield Airport Authority, and the Illini Country Club, |
22 | | where he also served as president; he was a member of the |

1 | | Sangamo Club, the Springfield Art Association, and several |
2 | | road paving associations; he was deeply committed to his faith |
3 | | and a member of the Blessed Sacrament and Christ the King |
4 | | Parishes; and

5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Sankey enjoyed several hobbies and pastimes, |
6 | | including investing in the stock market, spending time with |
7 | | family and friends, watching NCAA basketball and football, and |
8 | | many more; he was passionate about golfing, and his personal |
9 | | claim to fame was that he shot his age or better from age 81 to |
10 | | age 92; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Jack Sankey was preceded in death by his parents; |
12 | | his wife; his brother, Robert "Bob" Sankey; and his sister, |
13 | | Katherine "Sis" Sudduth; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Jack Sankey is survived by his sons, John E. |
15 | | (Jody) Sankey III and Robert M. Sankey; his daughters, |
16 | | Patricia (William) Marriott and Karen (John) Reyhan; his |
17 | | grandchildren, Karen Gail (Kory) Watson, Jacob Marriott, |
18 | | William (Kelly) Marriott, Melinda Marriott, Jacqueline Sankey, |
19 | | Robert Sankey Jr., Elizabeth Hope Sankey, Patricia Paige |
20 | | (Matt) Kaps, Madelyn Reyhan, and Franklin Reyhan; his |
21 | | great-grandchildren, Anna Marriott, Molly Marriott, Ford |
22 | | Fontaine, Finley Fontaine, Abigail Watson, and Jordan Watson; |
23 | | and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | John Edward "Jack" Sankey Jr. and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | him; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Jack Sankey as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy.
