SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jackie L. "Jack" Cummings of Loami, who passed away on November 13, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cummings was born to Lloyd and Bessie (Davenport) Cummings in New Berlin on August 17, 1945; he graduated from New Berlin High School; he served in the U.S. Army starting in 1965 at many locations around the world; he married Cheryl McCray on December 24, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cummings worked for Hermes Chevrolet in New Berlin after his service in the U.S. Army ended; he then worked for Fiat Allis until they closed in the early 1980s; he also worked at Sulphur Springs and Campbell Cemeteries in Loami for several years; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cummings became employed with the Illinois Army National Guard, where he started as a driver and mechanic before ultimately progressing to logistics; he was deployed to Iraq from 2004 to 2005; he retired after 26 years of service; and

WHEREAS, During his time in the U.S. Army and the Illinois Army National Guard, Jack Cummings received numerous ribbons and medals, including the Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon, the Illinois Military Long and Honorable Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Reserves Components Overseas Trainer Ribbon, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Mechanics Badge, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (Mobilized) Drivers Badge, the Distinguished Service Medal, and the Military Order of Saint Martin Award; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cummings was also known as "Cooter"; he volunteered with the Loami Fire Department, having served as a past chief; he enjoyed snow skiing, dirt car racing, and polka dancing; he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cummings was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Sharon, John, and Charlie; his brother-in-law, Kurtie; and his sister-in-law, Kathi; and

WHEREAS, Jack Cummings is survived by his wife, Cheryl "Suz" Cummings; his daughter, Rhonda (Clint) Johnsey; his brothers, Ron (Macie) Cummings and William Cummings; his sister, Janet (Lenny) Chaudoin; his brother-in-law, Albert "Bud" Hermes and Jim "Cray" (Marge) McCray; his sister-in-law, Mary Cummings; his good friend, Eddie Phillips; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jackie L. "Jack" Cummings and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Cummings as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
