SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Carrie Bankes of Oak Park, who passed away on June 16, 2021 at the age of 56; and

WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was born in Lansing, Michigan; she earned her bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; she moved to the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago; she met her husband, Steve Bankes, on Halloween night in 1992; together, they had 3 children and 4 dogs; and

WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes worked at Housing Forward, an organization that assists families experiencing homelessness; she was previously an employee of the Oak Park Wednesday Journal newspaper; she was noted for her invaluable talents in marketing communications; and

WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was a 22-year congregant of Unity Temple, where she volunteered, served on the Board of Trustees, and chaired the Education Committee for Children and Youth; and

WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was a strong supporter of the nonprofit organizations Planned Parenthood and Forging Opportunities for Refugees; and

WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes relished the beauty of nature, and she was known for sending flowers to her elderly neighbors; she also loved animals, and her love for them influenced her diet; and

WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Carrie Bankes was survived by her husband of 26 years, Steve Bankes, and her children, Julia, Abby, and Will; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Carrie Bankes and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carrie Bankes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
