| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Carrie Bankes of Oak Park, who passed |
| 4 | | away on June 16, 2021 at the age of 56; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was born in Lansing, Michigan; she |
| 6 | | earned her bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Journalism |
| 7 | | from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; she moved to the |
| 8 | | Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago; she met her husband, |
| 9 | | Steve Bankes, on Halloween night in 1992; together, they had 3 |
| 10 | | children and 4 dogs; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes worked at Housing Forward, an |
| 12 | | organization that assists families experiencing homelessness; |
| 13 | | she was previously an employee of the Oak Park Wednesday |
| 14 | | Journal newspaper; she was noted for her invaluable talents in |
| 15 | | marketing communications; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was a 22-year congregant of Unity |
| 17 | | Temple, where she volunteered, served on the Board of |
| 18 | | Trustees, and chaired the Education Committee for Children and |
| 19 | | Youth; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Bankes was a strong supporter of the |
| 21 | | nonprofit organizations Planned Parenthood and Forging |
