| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Joel B. Pedigo of Oak Park, who passed |
| 4 | | away on July 9, 2021 at the age of 85; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joel Pedigo was born in Smithville, Tennessee to |
| 6 | | Clarence and Willie Mae, who were both sharecroppers; at the |
| 7 | | beginning of World War II, the family moved to Akron, Ohio for |
| 8 | | jobs in the Goodyear rubber factory; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, At 17-years-old, Joel Pedigo enlisted in the |
| 10 | | United States Navy; during the Korean War, he served on the |
| 11 | | U.S.S. Roanoke; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After his service, Joel Pedigo attended Kent |
| 13 | | State University, the University of Cincinnati, and Ohio State |
| 14 | | University; ultimately, he obtained a master's degree in |
| 15 | | chemistry; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career as a chemist, Joel |
| 17 | | Pedigo was awarded two patents; he also owned Water |
| 18 | | Maintenance Services in Willowbrook for 30 years; he ended his |
| 19 | | career managing Meredith Culligan Water in Forest Park; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Joel Pedigo was a handball, motorcycle, and |
