SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald R. Hartwig of Rock Island, who passed away on December 31, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hartwig was born to William and Grace (Hall) Hartwig in Rock Island on January 6, 1925; he graduated from Rock Island High School; he attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University; he married Beverly Ann Waters in Moline on January 20, 1951; he served overseas as a private first class in the 2nd Armored Division of the U.S. Army during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hartwig was employed as a product design engineer at John Deere Plow Planter Works in Moline for over 32 years; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hartwig was a member of the In-Fisherman Club for over 40 years and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; he was active at St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he was a founding member; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hartwig loved playing tennis and coached boys and girls tennis at Alleman, United Township, and Rock Island High Schools; while tennis was his passion, he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing cards; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hartwig was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hartwig is survived by his wife of 71 years, Beverly; his children, Kathleen Hartwig, Judith (John) Johnson, James (Martha) Hartwig, Robert (Marcia) Hartwig, and Jack Hartwig; his six grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald R. Hartwig and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Hartwig as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
