SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 828

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 
3(SARS-CoV-2), better known as
COVID-19,  was first detected in 
4Illinois in January of 2020, and the first COVID-19 related 
5death in Illinois occurred on March 16, 2020; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS The first COVID-19 related  death in Illinois 
7occurred on March 16, 2020, and Governor Pritzker issued a 
8stay at home order on March 20, 2020 and extended that order on 
9April 1, 2020, signaling that the COVID-19 pandemic would 
10endure for the foreseeable future; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Public Health has 
12reported nearly 2.8 million cases across all counties and 
13almost 30,000 COVID-related deaths; more Illinoisans have died 
14of COVID-19 than died serving in World War I, World War II, and 
15the war in Vietnam combined; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Thousands of those who have survived COVID-19 are 
17still struggling with myriad symptoms of Long COVID-19; this   
18range of symptoms can last weeks or months after someone is 
19first  infected or can appear weeks after infection; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, COVID-19 has had costly and disruptive impacts on 
21Illinois residents and their families, businesses,

1institutions, and local and state governments; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois' network of public health professionals, 
3hospitals, and health care systems have battled relentlessly 
4to prevent and treat COVID-19 and prevent related deaths; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, It is customary in Illinois to remember and honor 
6those who have served the people of Illinois in protecting the 
7public health and to remember lives lost due to public health 
8tragedies such as COVID-19; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL 
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 1, 
112022 to be a day of remembrance in honor of those who have been 
12lost to the COVID-19 pandemic and in recognition of the 
13frontline workers who have sacrificed by tirelessly laboring 
14to protect the health of Illinoisans.
