| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Charles Marshall "Bud" Kenney II, M.D. |
| 4 | | of Springfield, who passed away on December 16, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney was born to Charles Marshall and |
| 6 | | Alberta Mae Hillyard Kenney in Springfield on November 15, |
| 7 | | 1931; he graduated from Springfield High School in 1949, where |
| 8 | | he lettered in track, football, and basketball; he graduated |
| 9 | | from Millikin University in 1953 and the University of |
| 10 | | Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in 1958; he married |
| 11 | | Janet Kay Cruse on December 26, 1991, and they had twin sons, |
| 12 | | William and Charles; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney began his private practice in Internal |
| 14 | | Medicine in Springfield in July 1959 and retired in February |
| 15 | | 2003; he served as a medical consultant for the Illinois |
| 16 | | Bureau of Disability Determination Services beginning in 1962 |
| 17 | | and continued in that capacity until his death; during his |
| 18 | | career, he was instrumental in introducing CPR to Springfield |
| 19 | | and the surrounding area; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney often performed in the medical charity |
| 21 | | fundraiser Medical Madness; he volunteered for the Springfield |
| 22 | | Commission on International Visitors and the Sister Cities |
|

| 1 | | Association of Springfield; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney was a member of the Westminster |
| 3 | | Presbyterian Church for 72 years; he was a longtime member of |
| 4 | | the American Medical Association, the Sangamon County Medical |
| 5 | | Association, the Sangamo Club, and the Island Bay Yacht Club; |
| 6 | | he was also a member of the Springfield Road Runners, and he |
| 7 | | ran the Boston Marathon three times and completed a total of 26 |
| 8 | | marathons; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney believed in diversity, inclusion, and |
| 10 | | equality; he enjoyed painting, model railroading, sailing, |
| 11 | | scuba diving, playing the piano, singing in the Springfield |
| 12 | | Choral Society and the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir, |
| 13 | | reading, solving crossword puzzles, and traveling, including |
| 14 | | to all 50 United States and multiple countries abroad; |
| 15 | | alongside his wife, he enjoyed entertaining guests from all |
| 16 | | over the world; he had a keen interest in Thich Nhat Hanh, a |
| 17 | | Vietnamese Buddhist monk who founded the Magnolia Grove |
| 18 | | Monastery and was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1967; |
| 19 | | and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney was preceded in death by his parents |
| 21 | | and his brother, George W. Bud; and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney is survived by his wife; his twin |

| 1 | | sons, Charles Robert "Charlie" Kenney and William Marshall |
| 2 | | "Will" Kenney; his children from a previous marriage, Diane |
| 3 | | (Brian) Handler, Deirdre "DeeDee" Kenney, and Dr. Charles |
| 4 | | "Chick" (Dr. Marta) Kenney; his granddaughters, Sarah, Nadia, |
| 5 | | and Mara; his several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his |
| 6 | | lifelong friend, Philip Graham (Ragnhild) Vance; therefore, be |
| 7 | | it

| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
|
| 10 | | Charles Marshall "Bud" Kenney II, M.D. and extend our sincere
|
| 11 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
|
| 12 | | him; and be it further
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
| 14 | | presented to the family of Dr. Kenney as an expression of
our |
| 15 | | deepest sympathy.
