SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Glenn Warren Painter Sr. of
4Litchfield, who passed away on February 17, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was born to Franklin Benjamin
6"Peck" and Ethel Grace (Saxby) Painter on the family farm near
7Barnett on September 28, 1924; he received his GED diploma; he
8married Frances Mae Stockman on February 19, 1949, and they
9later divorced; he married Cleta Irene Wiseman on January 31,
101975, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2010; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter served in the U.S. Army Air Corps,
12where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and was a top
13turret gunner; he served in campaigns in Naples, Foggia, Rome,
14and the Arno River area in Italy and in the Apennine Mountains
15of Southern France; he flew more than 32 combat missions over
16enemy lines in B29 bomber planes, and he was shot down over the
17Mediterranean Sea; he received a number of decorations and
18citations, including the French Distinguished Unit Citation,
19the Air Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster, the
20Distinguished Unit Badge with one oak leaf cluster, and the
21European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze
22stars; and

1    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter farmed along with working for the
2Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State
3Treasurer's Office; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was well known in local political
5circles; he served as Democrat Precinct Committeeman for
6Precinct #2 for South Litchfield Township and was a member of
7the Montgomery County Board for 32 years, serving South
8Litchfield Township District #5; he was a member of Donnellson
9Lodge #255 A.F. & A.M. in Donnellson; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter attended Mt. Zion Lutheran Church
11in Litchfield; he was known for planting large gardens and
12sharing his bounty with friends and those in need; he enjoyed
13visiting with folks at area coffee shops and restaurants; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was preceded in death by his
15parents; his wife; his brothers, Robert, Roscoe, Frank, Paul,
16Billy, Richard, Maynard, and John; and his sister, Marie
17Edwards; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Glenn Painter is survived by his children, Glenn
19Painter Jr., Anna Marie (Larry) Watkins, Pauline (Danny)
20Freytag, Jane (Joe Ragsdale) Painter, Kathleen Painter, and
21Paul (Shanel Rhodes) Painter; his grandchildren, Stephanie
22(Jason) Griffith, William (Michelle) Ellinger, Dustin (Dee)

1Ellinger, Douglas (Kelli) Ellinger, Landon Painter, and Erika
2Painter; his great-grandchildren, Dylan Boerckel, Kacie
3Boerckel, Shawnee Boerckel, Dominic Ellinger, Melody Ellinger,
4Alec Ellinger, Jayden Ellinger, Jayse Ellinger, Dalton
5Ellinger, Faith Ellinger, Elysse Ellinger, and Braden Ebert;
6his great-great-grandson, Brody Boerckel; his numerous
7brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his special sister-in-law,
8Irene Painter; and his numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Glenn Warren Painter Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Glenn Painter as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
