2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Glenn Warren Painter Sr. of | ||||||
4 | Litchfield, who passed away on February 17, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was born to Franklin Benjamin | ||||||
6 | "Peck" and Ethel Grace (Saxby) Painter on the family farm near | ||||||
7 | Barnett on September 28, 1924; he received his GED diploma; he | ||||||
8 | married Frances Mae Stockman on February 19, 1949, and they | ||||||
9 | later divorced; he married Cleta Irene Wiseman on January 31, | ||||||
10 | 1975, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2010; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, | ||||||
12 | where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and was a top | ||||||
13 | turret gunner; he served in campaigns in Naples, Foggia, Rome, | ||||||
14 | and the Arno River area in Italy and in the Apennine Mountains | ||||||
15 | of Southern France; he flew more than 32 combat missions over | ||||||
16 | enemy lines in B29 bomber planes, and he was shot down over the | ||||||
17 | Mediterranean Sea; he received a number of decorations and | ||||||
18 | citations, including the French Distinguished Unit Citation, | ||||||
19 | the Air Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster, the | ||||||
20 | Distinguished Unit Badge with one oak leaf cluster, and the | ||||||
21 | European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze | ||||||
22 | stars; and

1 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter farmed along with working for the | ||||||
2 | Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State | ||||||
3 | Treasurer's Office; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was well known in local political | ||||||
5 | circles; he served as Democrat Precinct Committeeman for | ||||||
6 | Precinct #2 for South Litchfield Township and was a member of | ||||||
7 | the Montgomery County Board for 32 years, serving South | ||||||
8 | Litchfield Township District #5; he was a member of Donnellson | ||||||
9 | Lodge #255 A.F. & A.M. in Donnellson; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter attended Mt. Zion Lutheran Church | ||||||
11 | in Litchfield; he was known for planting large gardens and | ||||||
12 | sharing his bounty with friends and those in need; he enjoyed | ||||||
13 | visiting with folks at area coffee shops and restaurants; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was preceded in death by his | ||||||
15 | parents; his wife; his brothers, Robert, Roscoe, Frank, Paul, | ||||||
16 | Billy, Richard, Maynard, and John; and his sister, Marie | ||||||
17 | Edwards; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Glenn Painter is survived by his children, Glenn | ||||||
19 | Painter Jr., Anna Marie (Larry) Watkins, Pauline (Danny) | ||||||
20 | Freytag, Jane (Joe Ragsdale) Painter, Kathleen Painter, and | ||||||
21 | Paul (Shanel Rhodes) Painter; his grandchildren, Stephanie | ||||||
22 | (Jason) Griffith, William (Michelle) Ellinger, Dustin (Dee) |

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | Glenn Warren Painter Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
13 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Glenn Painter as an expression of | ||||||
17 | our deepest sympathy.
