SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Glenn Warren Painter Sr. of Litchfield, who passed away on February 17, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was born to Franklin Benjamin "Peck" and Ethel Grace (Saxby) Painter on the family farm near Barnett on September 28, 1924; he received his GED diploma; he married Frances Mae Stockman on February 19, 1949, and they later divorced; he married Cleta Irene Wiseman on January 31, 1975, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and was a top turret gunner; he served in campaigns in Naples, Foggia, Rome, and the Arno River area in Italy and in the Apennine Mountains of Southern France; he flew more than 32 combat missions over enemy lines in B29 bomber planes, and he was shot down over the Mediterranean Sea; he received a number of decorations and citations, including the French Distinguished Unit Citation, the Air Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster, the Distinguished Unit Badge with one oak leaf cluster, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze stars; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter farmed along with working for the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Treasurer's Office; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was well known in local political circles; he served as Democrat Precinct Committeeman for Precinct #2 for South Litchfield Township and was a member of the Montgomery County Board for 32 years, serving South Litchfield Township District #5; he was a member of Donnellson Lodge #255 A.F. & A.M. in Donnellson; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter attended Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield; he was known for planting large gardens and sharing his bounty with friends and those in need; he enjoyed visiting with folks at area coffee shops and restaurants; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Robert, Roscoe, Frank, Paul, Billy, Richard, Maynard, and John; and his sister, Marie Edwards; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Painter is survived by his children, Glenn Painter Jr., Anna Marie (Larry) Watkins, Pauline (Danny) Freytag, Jane (Joe Ragsdale) Painter, Kathleen Painter, and Paul (Shanel Rhodes) Painter; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Griffith, William (Michelle) Ellinger, Dustin (Dee) Ellinger, Douglas (Kelli) Ellinger, Landon Painter, and Erika Painter; his great-grandchildren, Dylan Boerckel, Kacie Boerckel, Shawnee Boerckel, Dominic Ellinger, Melody Ellinger, Alec Ellinger, Jayden Ellinger, Jayse Ellinger, Dalton Ellinger, Faith Ellinger, Elysse Ellinger, and Braden Ebert; his great-great-grandson, Brody Boerckel; his numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his special sister-in-law, Irene Painter; and his numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Glenn Warren Painter Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Glenn Painter as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
