SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard H. "Dick" Hansen of Rock Island, who passed away on January 14, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was born on the Hansen family farm in Milan to Henry Oler and Beulah Marie (Cheek) Hansen on September 14, 1932; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1951 and attended the University of Illinois before being drafted into the U.S. Army; he served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado; he married Ruth Elaine Pitts on August 8, 1959; he received his bachelor's degree in Economics from Bradley University in Peoria in 1960; he earned a master's degree in Economics from Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was chosen to serve as an investigator for the State Police in 1971; he primarily worked in the Department of Motor Vehicles, serving in this capacity for 20 years until his retirement in 1992; he remained actively involved in the family farm business his entire life; upon retirement, he continued to be involved in numerous interests and acted as a licensing liaison for many local automobile dealerships; he also taught courses in Economics at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for more than 40 years, the Eureka Masonic Temple in Milan for over 50 years, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization for nearly 70 years; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Beverly Louise; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hansen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Elaine; his daughter, Sheri (Tim) Downing; his grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Hootman and Michael Downing; his siblings, John "Jack" Hansen and Lois (Al) Kucala; his sister-in-law, Judy (John) Hansen; his nieces, Suzanne (Greg) Anderson and Kelly (Ray) Patchett; and his nephews, Chris (Brenda) Hansen and Doug (Shara) Hansen, Morrison; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard H. "Dick" Hansen and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Hansen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
