| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Marion LyNell "Nell" Rice of Wauconda, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on February 19, 2022; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice was born on April 3, 1952; she earned | ||||||
| 6 | her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Western | ||||||
| 7 | Michigan University and her Master of Education in Curriculum | ||||||
| 8 | Development and Instruction from National Louis University; | ||||||
| 9 | she was a resident of Lake County since 1983, beginning in | ||||||
| 10 | Vernon Hills before she moved to Wauconda; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice worked as an occupational therapist at | ||||||
| 12 | Sparrow Rehab Center in Michigan, where she provided services | ||||||
| 13 | to closed head injury and stroke patients before working with | ||||||
| 14 | children with special disabilities;
after leaving the | ||||||
| 15 | healthcare field, she purchased a fast food franchise that she | ||||||
| 16 | maintained for approximately seven years before selling it; | ||||||
| 17 | and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice took a position in the banking industry | ||||||
| 19 | as director of Training for a major call center in 1998; she | ||||||
| 20 | moved through the organization and ended her career as vice | ||||||
| 21 | president of Operations, where she was responsible for three | ||||||
| 22 | 24x7 call centers, with a staff of four call center managers, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | six supervisors, 10 team leads, and approximately 1,000 call | ||||||
| 2 | center representatives; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice purchased Debbie's Floral Shoppe in | ||||||
| 4 | Mundelein on November 11, 2011; she ran the business as a | ||||||
| 5 | floral boutique shop, providing floral services for call-in, | ||||||
| 6 | online, and walk-in customers; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice provided training opportunities for the | ||||||
| 8 | SEDOL Program for Youth who were transitioning into | ||||||
| 9 | independent living, allowing them to obtain on-the-job skills, | ||||||
| 10 | and she regularly participated on the career panel for | ||||||
| 11 | Mundelein High School during the program year; she also worked | ||||||
| 12 | with the local Girl Scouts organization to provide troop | ||||||
| 13 | training at Debbie's Floral Shoppe, giving scouts the | ||||||
| 14 | opportunity to earn badges in horticulture by learning the | ||||||
| 15 | process of floral and plant care; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice served as chair of the University of | ||||||
| 17 | Illinois Extension Foundation for six years; she also served | ||||||
| 18 | as chair of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce since 2019; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Nell Rice will be remembered for being a mother, | ||||||
| 20 | grandmother, sister, trusted friend, and community advocate; | ||||||
| 21 | therefore, be it

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
| 3 | Marion LyNell "Nell" Rice and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
| 4 | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be | ||||||
| 5 | it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Nell Rice as an expression of
our | ||||||
| 8 | deepest sympathy.
