2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Parker Zumwalt of Pittsfield, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 17, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt was born to Parker and Eileen | ||||||
6 | Hemphill Zumwalt in Madison County on March 19, 1950; his | ||||||
7 | family moved to Pike County when he was four, where they lived | ||||||
8 | on a farm near Martinsburg, which the family still owns; he | ||||||
9 | graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1968, and he was very | ||||||
10 | proud to be a part of the Saukees 64-game winning streak; he | ||||||
11 | married Beth Mitchell on March 31, 1972; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt worked for the Pittsfield Township | ||||||
13 | from 1978 until 2015, serving as road commissioner for 30 of | ||||||
14 | those years; he was also a 30-year member of the Pittsfield | ||||||
15 | Fire Department, where he served as chief for many years | ||||||
16 | before his retirement; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt co-founded girls softball in | ||||||
18 | Pittsfield and Saukee Youth Football, where he served as a | ||||||
19 | coach for over 30 years, coaching from his wheelchair for the | ||||||
20 | past three years; he also served as president of the | ||||||
21 | Pittsfield Little League Association and coached within the | ||||||
22 | organization for several years; over the years, he served as |

1 | an umpire at the Pittsfield Lake softball league, a sports | ||||||
2 | reporter for the Pike Press, a sports broadcaster for WBBA, an | ||||||
3 | EMT for the Pike County Ambulance, a Ward 2 Democrat Precinct | ||||||
4 | Committeeman, and an assistant coach for the Saukee football | ||||||
5 | and wrestling teams; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt was a member of the First Baptist | ||||||
7 | Church and the Pittsfield Crossing; he was named Mr. Saukee by | ||||||
8 | both the wrestling and football programs at Pittsfield High | ||||||
9 | School; he and his wife were named parade marshals of the 2020 | ||||||
10 | Fall Festival; he will be remembered for the love he held for | ||||||
11 | his community; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt was preceded in death by his | ||||||
13 | parents; his son, Max Zumwalt; and his sister-in-law, Sandra | ||||||
14 | Richey; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Parker Zumwalt is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
16 | children, Trevor (Kris) Zumwalt, Toyia Zumwalt, and Tammi | ||||||
17 | (Jarrod Green) Zumwalt; his grandchildren, Katie (Buster) | ||||||
18 | McConnell, Molly Green, and Ellie Zumwalt; his | ||||||
19 | great-grandchild, Anna Beth McConnell; and his brother-in-law, | ||||||
20 | Lee Richey; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Parker Zumwalt and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
