| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of John Henry "Red" Lofton, who passed |
| 4 | | away on February 22, 2022; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Lofton was born in Isola, Mississippi to RB |
| 6 | | Lofton and Pearl Nixon on June 20, 1944; he graduated from |
| 7 | | McNair High School and received his associate's degree from |
| 8 | | Coahoma Jr. College and his bachelor's degree from Alcorn |
| 9 | | State University; he married Ruby McCamury on May 31, 1975; |
| 10 | | and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Lofton always believed in hard work; he |
| 12 | | established his work ethics in the cotton fields of |
| 13 | | Mississippi and was employed at the Walgreens in Chicago while |
| 14 | | attending high school and throughout junior college; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, John Lofton chose a life of protection and |
| 16 | | service; over 30 years of his life were dedicated to the |
| 17 | | Illinois State Police, and he was honored to serve as an |
| 18 | | officer for the FAA; even during his years of retirement, he |
| 19 | | was the Director of Security at Chicago City Colleges; he was |
| 20 | | honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve after serving |
| 21 | | 15 years; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Lofton committed to his faith at an early |
| 2 | | age; while living in Chicago, he was a member of Holy Sanctuary |
| 3 | | and Friendship Baptist Churches; he was a strong, supportive, |
| 4 | | and protective husband and father; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Lofton was preceded in death by his parents |
| 6 | | and his siblings, Berthea, Herman, Jennette, and Sammie; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, John Lofton is survived by his wife, Ruby; his |
| 8 | | sons, Marvin and Don Ragsdale; his daughters, Sharon (Michael) |
| 9 | | Johnson and Jonnetter; his siblings, Annette (Cecil) Lampton, |
| 10 | | Billy and Thomas Lofton, Hattie Toy, Vickie L. Floyd, Willie |
| 11 | | (Angela) Lofton, and Willie Ann Moss; and numerous |
| 12 | | grandchildren, great-grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, |
| 13 | | nephews, other relatives, friends, and co-workers; therefore, |
| 14 | | be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 17 | | John Henry "Red" Lofton and extend our sincere condolences to |
| 18 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 19 | | further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the family of John Lofton as an expression of our |
| 22 | | deepest sympathy.
