2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Col. Jerry Noel Hoblit, who passed |
4 | | away on January 31, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Col. Hoblit was born on September 8, 1936; he |
6 | | graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in |
7 | | 1958; he married Rosalie Ward at Spangdahlem Air Force Base in |
8 | | Germany on May 24, 1963; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Col. Hoblit's call sign was Dragon, but he was |
10 | | also know as Hognose; during the Vietnam War, he served three |
11 | | separate tours; he was awarded numerous medals, including |
12 | | three Distinguished Flying Crosses and three Silver Stars; |
13 | | three and a half decades after his service in Vietnam, the Air |
14 | | Force awarded him with its highest honor, the Air Force Cross; |
15 | | he retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Colonel on |
16 | | June 30, 1982; and

17 | | WHEREAS, Col. Hoblit was a world-class fighter pilot, a |
18 | | loving husband and father, a doting grandfather, and a |
19 | | generous friend; while his military career was marked with |
20 | | incredible success, he counted his marriage to Rosalie as his |
21 | | greatest and happiest achievement; he loved his three |
22 | | daughters, Holly Virginia, Heather Elizabeth, and Heidi Noel |
