SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul Russell Santy, formerly of Rosewood Heights, who passed away on September 28, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Paul Russell Santy was born to Earl and Opal Pearl (Kimsey) Santy in Rosiclare on August 4, 1928; he graduated from Rosiclare High School; he was on staff at the U.S. Fleet Sonar School in Key West, Florida for 2 years; he served on a destroyer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, providing fire support for the Army and giving support and supplies to guerrilla groups behind the lines, earning two Bronze Stars; he attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIU-C), where he earned his master's degree in School Administration and was inducted into the honorary fraternity Phi Delta Kappa at SIU-C in 1955; he married Donna Lou East at the First Christian Church in West Frankfort on August 14, 1954, and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2019; they lived in Carterville before moving to the East Alton/Wood River area; and

WHEREAS, Paul Santy taught at Roxana Junior and Senior High Schools for four years; he then served as principal at East Alton Junior High School District 13 for 28 years before retiring; and

WHEREAS, Paul Santy was past-president of the Roxana Teacher's Association and served on the board of directors of the Teachers Federal Credit Union; he was a member of the National Teachers Association, the Illinois Teachers Association, and the Illinois Junior High Principals Association, serving on several committees of those organizations; he served on a committee for selecting educational programs for KETC (Channel 9) and the City of Wood River Traffic Commission; he also raised funds for the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, Paul Santy was a life member of Alton VFW Post 1308, East Alton American Legion Post 794, and the First United Methodist Church in East Alton; and

WHEREAS, Paul Santy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Donna; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott Russell and Cathy Santy; and his grandson, Joshua Scott Santy; and

WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Paul Santy was survived by his sons, Brent Spencer (Robbie) Santy and Michael Scott (Cynthia) Santy; his grandchildren, Kacey Lea Santy, Kaylea Nicole Santy, Benjamin Michael Santy, Luke Henry Santy, and Brooke Elizabeth Santy; his brother, Richard (Paula) Santy; his nieces, Reta D. East, Laura Shewmake, and Jan (Jim) Kuppart; and his great-niece, Stephanie Shewmake; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Paul Russell Santy and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Santy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
