SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Susan M. Beecher-Curtiss, who passed away on May 8, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtiss was born to Ralph and Margaret (Proctor) Beecher in Bloomington on March 21, 1950; she was raised in rural Anchor; after a move to Missouri with her family, she graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School; she married Frank Curtiss on August 11, 1973, and they raised their two daughters in Rowe; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtiss worked at the Pontiac branch of The American Lung Association for many years; she later worked as the secretary for Pontiac Township; she served as the acting supervisor for Esmen Township; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtiss served in many positions as a board member for Township Officials of Illinois and Township Supervisors of Illinois; her knowledge of township government was vast, and she had an ongoing dedication to teaching others; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtiss was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Pontiac and carried her faith with her always; she was a 37 year breast cancer survivor and often accompanied family and friends to their treatments, as she knew the toll of therapy; she was an active member of the Pontiac Rotary Club and often spoke of her excitement for the annual Christmas party benefiting the children of the community; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtiss was a master crocheter; she enjoyed playing cards every chance she had with her friends and watching her favorite sports teams, the Chicago Blackhawks, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago Bears; her favorite pastimes were simply visiting with friends and spending time with her family; she was most proud of being a mom and grandma and was lovingly called "Mommy Duck" by her husband; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtiss was preceded in death by her parents; her younger sister and best friend, Janice Long; her paternal grandparents; and her maternal grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Susan Beecher-Curtis is survived by her husband; her daughters, Tami (Greg) Putnam and Jennifer Curtiss (Noah Kilmer); her grandsons, Ethan Putnam, Owen Putnam, and Aaron Putnam; her granddogs, Mitzi, Darby, and Ollie; her brothers, Bryan (Karen) Beecher and Todd (Sandra) Beecher; her nieces and nephews; her great-nieces and great-nephews; her several cousins; and her countless friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Susan M. Beecher-Curtiss and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Susan Beecher-Curtiss as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
