SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles W. "Charlie" Brandt of Milan, who passed away on August 1, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Charles Brandt was born to Henry G. Brandt Sr. and Agnes M. Wingard Brandt in Rock Island on December 12, 1930; he married Patricia Ryan at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa on October 3, 1953; he served in the U.S. Air Force; and

WHEREAS, Charles Brandt founded Brandt Construction Company in April 1959, where he served as president and chairman of the board; he led his company through an expansion into all industries within the construction field; after 63 years in the business, he served as president for nine different companies; throughout his leadership, he touched the lives of many and treated every employee as if they were his own family; and

WHEREAS, Charles Brandt was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan; he served as a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 532 in Davenport for 64 years; he was also a member of the TPA Quad City Post, the Moose Lodge #190, Milan American Legion Post 569, and Rock Island VFW Post 1303; and

WHEREAS, Charles Brandt was an avid hunter and fisherman; he loved spending time with his sons and grandsons, whether it was spent on the farms, while deer or geese hunting, or while chasing tarpon in Costa Rica; his passion for construction spread into his free time, and he could often be found on the farm playing with his construction equipment and his dogs; he loved Labradors, possessing many over the years; he also enjoyed horse racing in his younger years and even owned a few; and

WHEREAS, Charles Brandt was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Henry G. Brandt Jr. and William "Bill" Brandt; his sister, Betty Zwer; and his daughter-in-law, Brenda Brandt; and

WHEREAS, Charles Brandt is survived by his wife, Patricia Brandt; his children, Terry Brandt, Tim (Krystal Miller) Brandt, Jane (Kevin Trasorras) Brandt, Todd (Laura) Brandt, and Trent (Cathy Vanthournout) Brandt; his six grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles W. "Charlie" Brandt and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Brandt as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
