| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Gerald Evans Gill of Michigan, |
| 4 | | formerly of Virginia, Illinois, who passed away on July 23, |
| 5 | | 2022; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was born in Cass County on July 19, |
| 7 | | 1931; he graduated from Virginia High School; he completed his |
| 8 | | higher education through Knox College and the University of |
| 9 | | Miami; he served in the U.S. Navy; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was the founder and board chairman of |
| 11 | | CassComm; he began his career in farming and sales; while |
| 12 | | managing his Virginia-based family business, the Cass County |
| 13 | | Telephone Company (CCTC), he recognized the importance of |
| 14 | | emerging cable television technology in the 1960s; he created |
| 15 | | Cass Community Antenna Television, Inc. (CATV) to serve |
| 16 | | Beardstown in 1965, which would eventually become a cable |
| 17 | | television service; over the years, his companies grew into |
| 18 | | CassComm, becoming a provider of telephone, television, long |
| 19 | | distance, and internet service to more than 30 communities in |
| 20 | | central Illinois; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was a true pioneer in the |
| 22 | | telecommunications industry, with success in building, |
