SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas L. "Gus" Gainey of Orion, who passed away on August 22, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was born to Guy and Martha Miller Gainey in the Colona Township on November 3, 1929; he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954; he married Nancy K. Westerlund in Orion on October 24, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was a longtime farmer in the Orion area; he was also employed with Clark Feed & Supply in Orion, NBC in Cambridge, and AGH of Orion, where he was a part owner; and

WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was an active member of the Orion United Methodist Church, the Orion American Legion Post #255, the Orion Masonic Sherman Lodge, and the Orion Order of the Eastern Star; he was also a member of a 50-year card club group of friends; and

WHEREAS, Gus Gainey enjoyed bowling and playing baseball in his younger years; he was also a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan; he was an excellent woodworker and an Honor Flight attendee, an experience that made him very proud; and

WHEREAS, Gus Gainey was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Mervin and Darrel "Diz" Gainey; and his sister, Loretta Hallquist; and

WHEREAS, Gus Gainey is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Ty (Pam) Gainey, Grant (Rhonda) Gainey, Neil (Rena) Gainey, and Kurt (Mary) Gainey; his 10 granddaughters; his 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Evelyn Nichols; and his brother, Gene (Jeanne) Gainey; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas L. "Gus" Gainey and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gus Gainey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
