2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Cora Lee "Jackie" Brown, who passed |
4 | | away on September 18, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was born to Bessie L. Brown and Alex |
6 | | Gosia in Doddsville, Mississippi on June 14, 1944; she was |
7 | | raised in Doddsville until her family relocated to Greenwood, |
8 | | Mississippi in 1955; she attended the Delta Industrial |
9 | | Institute and Broad Street High School, where she was a member |
10 | | of the women's basketball team and track team; she enrolled at |
11 | | Panama City Junior College in Panama City, Florida; she |
12 | | relocated to Chicago in March 1964; she married Eddie J. Brown |
13 | | Jr. at Timmons Holy Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) on |
14 | | December 5, 1964; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed |
16 | | treating her family and friends to home cooked meals; she |
17 | | began working part-time as a check processing clerk with |
18 | | Continental Bank in the 1990s; after moving to full-time, she |
19 | | became a supervisor/area coordinator over a section of clerks; |
20 | | she was regarded as a well-respected and beloved supervisor; |
21 | | and

22 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was a member of Timmons Holy Temple |

1 | | COGIC until she moved her membership to Robinson Temple COGIC, |
2 | | which later converted to New Mt. Olive COGIC; while a member of |
3 | | New Mt. Olive, she served as the minister of music, where she |
4 | | was an outstanding choir director; she also held the position |
5 | | of assistant minister of music for Greater Love District, 5th |
6 | | Jurisdiction of Illinois Churches of God in Christ; in her |
7 | | later years, she moved her membership to New Covenant COGIC; |
8 | | she became a member of Alpha Baptist Church U.C.C. in March |
9 | | 2001, where she served as minister of music and received her |
10 | | reverend license; she later became a member of St. Luke COGIC; |
11 | | and

12 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was preceded in death by her |
13 | | husband; her parents; her chosen daughter, Ida Cleaves; and |
14 | | her brothers, Roosevelt Harvey, Joseph Anderson, Sammie |
15 | | Anderson, James Anderson, and Larry Brown; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Jackie Brown is survived by her children, Cedric |
17 | | Eugene (Regina), Karen Latrice, Kimberly Ann (Derrick), |
18 | | Patrick Alexander (Melanie), and Eddie J. III (Nytrania); her |
19 | | nephew raised as her own, Paul David; her grandchildren, |
20 | | Shantel, Keith, Karen, Kymyatta, Kiara, Kyra, Kylin, Ambria, |
21 | | Nicholas, Avrie, Autumn, Erin, Eric, Shannon, Shiree, |
22 | | Sherwoodia, Shameka, and Wilson; her great-grandchildren; her |
23 | | sisters, Dorothy (Willie) Brown and Myra Jewett; her brother, |
24 | | JC Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, |

5 | | Cora Lee "Jackie" Brown and extend our sincere
