SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of David Kent Nelson of East Moline, who 
4passed away on October 11, 2022; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, David Nelson was born in Moline to Einar Nels and 
6Mildred Elizabeth (Olson) Nelson on  August 21, 1946; he 
7graduated from Moline High School in 1964 and attended  Black 
8Hawk College; he served with the U.S.  Navy; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, David Nelson retired from the Illinois Department 
10of Human Services as a caseworker in 2005; he served in 
11communications for the U.S. Department of Defense operations 
12during the Apollo XI mission, the first moon landing flight, 
13in July of 1969; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, David Nelson was a member of the Fraternal Order 
15of Eagles and the VFW; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, 
16Chicago Cubs, Fighting Illini, and Boston Celtics; he loved to 
17golf and play pool and always was the first to help in any 
18situation; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and 
19brother; and
  
 
  
20    WHEREAS, David Nelson is survived by his wife of 34 years, 
21Joneva Nelson; his children, Nicholaus and Daniel Hansen; his

1sister, Phyllis Wilson; his brother, Dr. Don Nelson; his 
2grandchildren, Shane, Angelo, Brady, Jacob, and Andrew; three 
3great-grandchildren; and numerous  nieces, nephews, and 
4cousins; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL 
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
7David Kent Nelson and extend our sincere condolences to his 
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
9further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to  the family of  David Nelson as an expression of our 
12deepest sympathy.
