2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Steven L. "Steve" Cantrell of | ||||||
4 | Murrayville, who passed away on September 20, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell was born to Lloyd and June Knight | ||||||
6 | Cantrell in Jacksonville on November 29, 1951; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Jacksonville High School in 1970; he served in the U.S. | ||||||
8 | Air Force for four years; he married Alice Dober Jones on March | ||||||
9 | 14, 2003; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell worked as a highway maintainer for | ||||||
11 | the Illinois Department of Transportation for many years; he | ||||||
12 | previously owned and operated Cantrell Trucking and worked | ||||||
13 | with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Upon the closure of the Jacksonville Theatre | ||||||
16 | Guild, Steve Cantrell founded the Dream Center Foundation with | ||||||
17 | the purpose of helping children learn the basics of life; he | ||||||
18 | operated a food truck around Morgan County to benefit the | ||||||
19 | Dream Center, and that truck became a popular attraction at | ||||||
20 | the Morgan County Fair, the boat races on Lake Jacksonville, | ||||||
21 | the Prairieland Heritage Museum, the Queen of Hearts drawing | ||||||
22 | in Woodson, and many other local events; and

1 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell coached baseball in Murrayville, | ||||||
2 | traveled to the Gus Macker basketball tournaments, and | ||||||
3 | refereed and coached his children's sports; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell was a longtime member of the | ||||||
5 | Murrayville United Methodist Church; he was active in the FFA | ||||||
6 | Alumni and grilled at every home basketball game; he was | ||||||
7 | selected to the board of directors of the Jacksonville School | ||||||
8 | District in 2007, becoming the board's longest-serving member; | ||||||
9 | and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell enjoyed attending auctions and | ||||||
11 | thrift sales; he will be remembered for his generosity to | ||||||
12 | others and his dedication to the Murrayville and Jacksonville | ||||||
13 | communities; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell was preceded in death by his | ||||||
15 | father; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Steve Cantrell is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
17 | children, Krystal Thomas, Chad Cantrell, Luke (Leah) Cantrell, | ||||||
18 | and Nicole Cantrell; his mother; his stepchildren, Jessica | ||||||
19 | Endres and Zachary Finch; his grandchildren, Danny Clemons, | ||||||
20 | Allie Bowman, Carrie Bowman, Easton Thomas, Addison Cantrell, | ||||||
21 | Teagan Cantrell, Nash Cantrell, and Brentlee Jones; his |

1 | step-grandchildren, Bradey Finch, Britney Ratliff, Brenden | ||||||
2 | Finch, Madeline Endres, Carter Turner, and Emma Finch; his | ||||||
3 | step-great-grandchildren, Karliah Finch and Ella Mae Ratliff; | ||||||
4 | and his sister, Suzanne (Greg) Bell; therefore, be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
7 | Steven L. "Steve" Cantrell and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
8 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be | ||||||
9 | it further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
