SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Karen E. Sutton of Springfield, who passed away on October 10, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sutton was born to Byron "Bookie" Salzman and Dorothy Corven Salzman in Springfield on May 29, 1947; she graduated from Springfield High School in 1965 and attended Brown's Business College; she married Carroll Sutton; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sutton had a career in data processing, retiring from the Illinois Department of Public Health in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sutton and her husband, Carroll, worked together on nine of their Springfield High School reunions; in their later years, they traveled to National Mustang Shows from coast to coast, showing their Mustangs; her attention to detail helped them earn several awards, and her work in the Tally Room while Carroll was judging cars was greatly appreciated by the judging secretaries with whom she worked; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sutton really enjoyed bowling, and she was exceptional at it until problems with her knees kept her from continuing; she also served as a league secretary in a few leagues; she was always an avid reader, utilizing her Kindle to either read or work on a jigsaw puzzle whenever she had a spare moment; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sutton was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lou Salzman; and both sets of her grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sutton is survived by her husband of 54 years and 54 days, Carroll; her daughter, Julie; her son, Brent; and her darling Border Collie, Oreo; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Karen E. Sutton and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Karen Sutton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
