SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Louis "Lou" Rivera Jr. of Silvis, formerly Moline, who passed away on October 31, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Lou Rivera was born to Louis Rivera Sr. and Solidad Guerrero in Moline on December 25, 1933; he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in both California and the Philippines; he married Mary Cervantes in Moline in 1958; and

WHEREAS, Lou Rivera began a long career as a professional photographer following his military service, working for the Rock Island Arsenal and the Moline Dispatch; after retirement, he continued to work as a self-employed photographer; he was passionate about his profession and strived for perfection, always looking for that perfect shot; and

WHEREAS, Lou Rivera enjoyed life; in his early years, he became an accomplished racquetball player; he loved dancing, listening to live music, and becoming a foster parent to all of the neighborhood animals; he also loved movies and art; he played the ukulele and harmonica, and he became an expert in the art of boomerang throwing; and

WHEREAS, Lou Rivera was preceded in death by his siblings, Delores Rivera, Mario Guerrero, and Louise Chedister; and

WHEREAS, Lou Rivera is survived by his daughter, Martine (Chris) Van Speybroeck; his brothers, Arthur Rivera and Jimmy (Celeste) Guerrero; his sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Romano, Mercedes (Bob) Martinez, Jessica Ludway, and Tilly (Jess) Mendoza; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Louis "Lou" Rivera Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lou Rivera as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
