| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Thomas Russell "Tom" Slater of Moline, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on October 29, 2022; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Tom Slater was born to Everett James and Dorothy | ||||||
| 6 | Armina (Wells) Slater in Rock Island on April 8, 1929; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948, where he | ||||||
| 8 | excelled in football, basketball, and track;
he served in the | ||||||
| 9 | U.S. Army at Camp Irwin in California for two years during the | ||||||
| 10 | Korean War, helping train soldiers in tank operations in the | ||||||
| 11 | Mojave Desert; he married Vera Jean Morley in 1953, and they | ||||||
| 12 | made their home in Moline; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Tom Slater worked for John Deere Planter for 42 | ||||||
| 14 | years before retiring in 1987; he also worked as a golf course | ||||||
| 15 | marshal for several years; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Tom Slater served on church committees at First | ||||||
| 17 | United Methodist Church, now Riverside UMC, in Moline; he also | ||||||
| 18 | helped his sons in their Boy Scout activities; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Tom Slater enjoyed golfing with friends and | ||||||
| 20 | family; he loved feeding wildlife, except squirrels, in his | ||||||
| 21 | backyard; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Tom Slater was preceded in death by his brother, | ||||||
| 2 | Lawrence Slater; his sister, Barbara Moad; his sister-in-law, | ||||||
| 3 | Marjorie Slater; and his nephew, Craig Slater; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Tom Slater is survived by his wife; his sons, | ||||||
| 5 | Mark (Cindy) Slater, Chris (Connie) Slater, and Todd (Lisa) | ||||||
| 6 | Slater; his grandchildren, Melissa (Nick) Anderson, Lauren | ||||||
| 7 | (Matt) Dufrene, Austin Slater, Grant Slater, and Mason Slater; | ||||||
| 8 | his great-grandchildren, Dexter Anderson, Max Anderson, and | ||||||
| 9 | Rosemary Dufrene; his brother, Philip Beardsley; his niece, | ||||||
| 10 | Laurie (Craig) Kramer; and his nephews, Justin Slater and | ||||||
| 11 | Brian Moad; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 14 | Thomas Russell "Tom" Slater and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
| 15 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be | ||||||
| 16 | it further

| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of Tom Slater as an expression of
