SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Maureen Macy Lober, who passed away on December 12, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was born to Maurice and Ila Glee Macy in Streator on May 28, 1927; she grew up in Litchfield until her family moved to California and Florida during World War II; she attended the University of California, Los Angeles and then graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State University; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober's family returned to Litchfield after the war; she taught English and Spanish at Litchfield High School; she married fellow teacher and basketball coach, Arlyn Lober, in 1950; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober attended the Lincoln College of Law while teaching in Litchfield; she graduated at the top of her class and became the first woman attorney to be a member of the Illinois Bar Association; she practiced law with her father at Macy and Lober Attorneys at Law in Litchfield for the next 65 years; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober and Arlyn moved to Springfield in 1952, where she was active in many organizations, including Zonta International, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the American Association of University Women, and the Litchfield Women's Club; she was an elected member of the first Springfield Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority Board that was responsible for building the Prairie Capital Convention Center (Bank of Springfield Center); she was also an active and devoted member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church until it merged into Peace Lutheran, where she attended with family every Sunday; she was exceptionally generous with her time and money for many local charities; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober loved her family and her bridge club, including her lifelong surviving friends, Marilyn Kyes, MaryAnn Armstrong, Joanne Hott, and Sidney Kling; she also loved her many pets, horseback riding, swimming, skiing, gardening, reading, traveling, music, arguing politics, and correcting one's grammar; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was a women's rights activist and politically involved all of her life; she led by example and was loved and respected by friends, family, and clients; she had a kind and caring nature, always looking on the bright side and concentrating on people's good points; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and nothing brought her more pleasure than the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Arlyn; her daughter, Laurette; her sisters, Carol Neave and Janet Golovner; and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Lober is survived by her daughters, Becky (Denny) Hendricks, Rose (Ric) Lober Hamilton, and Chris (Todd) Green; her grandchildren, Macy (Nick) Lober Morrison, Thomas Hamilton, Gabe Green, and Audrey Green; her great-grandchildren, Eli Cook, Teagan Bensko, Jacob Morrison, and Scarlett and Gianna Green; her brother-in-law, Al Neave; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Maureen Macy Lober and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maureen Lober as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
