Amends the Animal Welfare Act. Provides that an animal control facility shall not charge an adoption fee for a dog or cat if the person adopting the dog or cat presents to the animal control facility a current and valid driver's license, Illinois Identification Card, or Illinois Person with a Disability Identification Card with the word "veteran" printed on its face. Provides that an animal control facility may limit the number of dogs or cats adopted from that animal control facility pursuant to this Section to one dog or cat each 6-month period.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Animal Welfare Act is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3.20 as follows: |
6 | | (225 ILCS 605/3.20 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3.20. Veteran fee waiver for dog or cat adoption. |
8 | | (a) An animal control facility shall not charge an |
9 | | adoption fee for a dog or cat if the person adopting the dog or |
10 | | cat presents to the animal control facility a current and |
11 | | valid Illinois driver's license, Illinois Identification Card, |
12 | | or Illinois Person with a Disability Identification Card with |
13 | | the word "veteran" printed on its face. |
14 | | (b) An animal control facility may limit the number of |
15 | | dogs or cats adopted from that animal control facility |
16 | | pursuant to this Section to one dog or cat each 6-month period.
