AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3844 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3844 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
 
4    "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the 
5Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention Screening Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
     
7    "Sport" means any activity organized by the school where 
8student athletes compete against one another or against other 
9schools for enjoyment and entertainment.
     
10    "Student athlete" means a student who is in any type of 
11school, including, but not limited to, middle school, high 
12school, or postsecondary education, that participates in a 
13sport.

 
14    Section 10. Screening for sudden cardiac death.


15    (a)   A student athlete over the age of 12 is strongly

1encouraged to  undergo sudden cardiac death screening before 
2the student athlete may participate in sports.

3    (b)    A student athlete is strongly encouraged to undergo 
4sudden cardiac death screening once in middle school or high 
5school and once before postsecondary-education-level sports.".
