| Amends the Medical School Curriculum Act. Provides that, for medical students who, on or after the effective date of the amendatory Act, matriculate into a medical school that is subject to the Act, the minimum required curriculum shall also include a medical humanities course that covers, among other things, the effects of institutional racism on medical education, medical research, and medical care in the United States. Effective immediately. |

1 | | AN ACT concerning education. |
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
4 | | Section 5. The Medical School Curriculum Act is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 1 as follows: |
6 | | (110 ILCS 55/1) (from Ch. 144, par. 54.11) |
7 | | Sec. 1. Each and every medical school established, |
8 | | maintained and operated by the State of Illinois shall include |
9 | | in the curriculum a department of general practice of medicine |
10 | | under the direction and supervision of a qualified general |
11 | | practitioner. The minimum requirements for the department |
12 | | shall include courses of study in family care including |
13 | | clinical experience, a program of preceptorships, a program of |
14 | | internships or general practice residences in a hospital and |
15 | | such other teaching techniques as in the judgment of the |
16 | | management of the school shall be best suited to encourage and |
17 | | implement the preparation of students for the general practice |
18 | | of medicine. For students who, on or after the effective date |
19 | | of this amendatory Act of the 103rd General Assembly, |
20 | | matriculate into a medical school that is subject to this |
21 | | Section, the minimum required curriculum shall also include a |
22 | | medical humanities course that covers, among other things, the |
23 | | effects of institutional racism on medical education, medical |
