| 1 | | AN ACT concerning elections. |
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
| 4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing |
| 5 | | Section 3-6 as follows: |
| 6 | | (10 ILCS 5/3-6) |
| 7 | | Sec. 3-6. Voting and registration age. |
| 8 | | (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person |
| 9 | | who is 17 years old on the date of a caucus, general primary |
| 10 | | election, or consolidated primary election and who is |
| 11 | | otherwise qualified to vote is qualified to vote at that |
| 12 | | caucus, general primary, or consolidated primary, including |
| 13 | | voting a vote by mail, grace period, or early voting ballot |
| 14 | | with respect to that general primary or consolidated primary, |
| 15 | | if that person will be 18 years old on the date of the |
| 16 | | immediately following general election or consolidated |
| 17 | | election for which candidates are nominated at that primary. |
| 18 | | (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person |
| 19 | | who is otherwise qualified to vote may preregister to vote on |
| 20 | | or after that person's 16th birthday, with the registration |
| 21 | | application held in abeyance by the State Board of Elections |
| 22 | | until that individual attains the required age to vote, at |
| 23 | | which time the State Board of Elections shall transmit the |
