1 | | (b) The Director of Corrections shall appoint the Safety |
2 | | Committee members. The appointed chairperson of the Committee |
3 | | shall have a professional background and training in an |
4 | | environmental health and safety field. The chairperson of the |
5 | | Safety Committee, or the chairperson's designee, may conduct a |
6 | | workplace safety inspection of any property, equipment, or |
7 | | workplace under the control or supervision of the Department |
8 | | at any time and shall conduct random unannounced inspections |
9 | | as often as deemed necessary. |
10 | | (c) The chairperson of the Safety Committee, or the |
11 | | chairperson's designee, may also investigate training |
12 | | practices for the use of equipment and may direct that |
13 | | alternative trainings be used. The Committee chairperson, or |
14 | | the chairperson's designee, may take any piece of equipment |
15 | | lacking industry standard safeguards out of service. The |
16 | | jurisdiction of the Safety Committee is strictly limited to |
17 | | Occupational Safety and Health Act and any other applicable |
18 | | workplace health and safety laws. The provisions of this |
19 | | Section are subject to appropriations. ". |
