1 | | AN ACT concerning education. |
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 2-3.64a-20 as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/2-3.64a-20 new) |
7 | | Sec. 2-3.64a-20. Restrictions on grades kindergarten |
8 | | through 6 assessments. |
9 | | (a) On or after the effective date of this amendatory Act |
10 | | of the 103rd General Assembly, the State Board of Education |
11 | | may not mandate or require the use of funding for any |
12 | | additional standardized assessments in the content areas of |
13 | | English language arts, mathematics, or science in grades |
14 | | kindergarten through 6 beyond the requirements of federal law. |
15 | | (b) Nothing in this Section may be construed to limit the |
16 | | ability of a classroom teacher or school district to develop, |
17 | | purchase, administer, or score an assessment for an individual |
18 | | classroom, grade level, or group of grade levels in any |
19 | | subject area in grades kindergarten through 6. |
20 | | (c) The State Board of Education shall explore any |
21 | | assessment flexibility afforded to states through waivers |
22 | | under federal law. |
