1 | | specialist and at least one mental health professional who is |
2 | | available during the center's hours of operation to assess the |
3 | | severity of a client's mental health crisis, assist in |
4 | | developing a safety plan, and connect a client to appropriate |
5 | | community resources and other behavioral health providers |
6 | | appropriate to meet the individual needs of the client. Grants |
7 | | awarded under the program may be used to fund increased |
8 | | staffing at existing crisis walk-in centers. Grants may also |
9 | | be awarded to behavioral health providers for the |
10 | | establishment or operation of crisis walk-in centers in |
11 | | underserved communities. The Department may adopt rules on |
12 | | application requirements and any other rules necessary to |
13 | | implement the program. As used in this Section, "mental health |
14 | | professional" means an individual who provides services under |
15 | | the supervision of a qualified mental health professional and |
16 | | who possesses: |
17 | | (1) a bachelor's degree; |
18 | | (2) a practical nurse license under the Nurse Practice |
19 | | Act; |
20 | | (3) a certificate of psychiatric rehabilitation from a |
21 | | DHS-approved program plus a high school diploma plus 2 |
22 | | years' experience in providing mental health services; |
23 | | (4) a recovery support specialist certified and in |
24 | | good standing with the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug |
25 | | Abuse Professional Certification Association, Inc., plus |
26 | | one year's experience in providing mental health services; |

1 | | (5) an occupational therapy assistant licensed under |
2 | | the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act with at |
3 | | least one year of experience in a mental health setting; |
4 | | or |
5 | | (6) a minimum of 5 years' supervised experience in |
6 | | mental health or human services. |
7 | | A supervised internship in a mental health setting counts |
8 | | toward the experience in providing mental health services. ". |
