| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
| 3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who | ||||||
| 4 | have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
| ||||||
| 5 | ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Private First Class Donnie Joe Clough of | ||||||
| 7 | Hindsboro was born to Joseph and Pearl Tate Clough in Tuscola | ||||||
| 8 | on July 27, 1949; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, PFC Clough volunteered to serve in the U.S. | ||||||
| 10 | Marine Corps in July of 1968; he was sent overseas on January | ||||||
| 11 | 27, 1969, serving as a rifleman in the 1st Marine Division, 2nd | ||||||
| 12 | Battalion, 5th Marine, F Company; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, PFC Clough was killed while on duty in the Quang | ||||||
| 14 | Nam Providence in Vietnam on September 9, 1969; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, PFC Clough was awarded the Purple Heart, the | ||||||
| 16 | Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal with one | ||||||
| 17 | Service Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense | ||||||
| 18 | Service Medal, and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, PFC Clough was | ||||||
| 20 | survived by his parents; his brothers, Clyde Russel, Doyle | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Wayne, Alvin Layel, and Bruce Dean; and his sisters, Virginia | ||||||
| 2 | Taylor, Carol Layton, Debra Louise, Linda Sue, and Pamela Kay; | ||||||
| 3 | and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, PFC Clough's name has been immortalized on Panel | ||||||
| 5 | WI8, Line 61 of the Vietnam Wall Memorial in Washington, D.C.; | ||||||
| 6 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 8 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 9 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 133 | ||||||
| 10 | as it travels through Hindsboro as the "PFC Donnie J. Clough | ||||||
| 11 | Memorial Highway"; and be it further | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
| ||||||
| 13 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
| 14 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
| 15 | giving notice of the name "PFC Donnie J. Clough Memorial | ||||||
| 16 | Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of PFC Clough and the Secretary of the | ||||||
| 19 | Illinois Department of Transportation.
