2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have | ||||||
4 | given their lives in service to their communities; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, On October 4, 2021, DEA Special Agent Michael | ||||||
6 | Gale "Mike" Garbo died while in the line of duty as a result of | ||||||
7 | injuries sustained during a shooting in downtown Tucson, | ||||||
8 | Arizona; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Special Agent Garbo was born in Grayville to | ||||||
10 | Carol Ann (Young) Garbo and Larry Garbo on February 10, 1970; | ||||||
11 | he graduated from Grayville High School in 1988 and Eastern | ||||||
12 | Illinois University; he served with the U.S. Army National | ||||||
13 | Guard; he resided in Sahuarita, Arizona at the time of his | ||||||
14 | passing; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Special Agent Garbo was inspired by his late | ||||||
16 | father, an Illinois State Police captain, and pursued a career | ||||||
17 | in law enforcement; he was a former police officer for the | ||||||
18 | Metro Nashville Police Department; he was currently serving as | ||||||
19 | a special agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) | ||||||
20 | based in Tucson, Arizona, a position he held since 2005; with | ||||||
21 | unmatched talent, knowledge, dignity, and bravery, he | ||||||
22 | dedicated his life's work to combating drug traffickers, |

1 | spanning from Kabul, Afghanistan to various locations across | ||||||
2 | the United States; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Special Agent Garbo was a dedicated father and | ||||||
4 | husband who devoted his life to serving and caring for others; | ||||||
5 | he enjoyed practicing Jiu Jitsu and martial arts, spending | ||||||
6 | time with his family, and watching his daughter succeed in | ||||||
7 | every aspect of her life; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Special Agent Garbo was preceded in death by his | ||||||
9 | parents and his special grandmother, Betty Garbo; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Special Agent Garbo | ||||||
11 | was survived by his wife, Vida Mary Garbo; his daughter, | ||||||
12 | Alexis Garbo; his niece and goddaughter, Kennedy Valinevicius; | ||||||
13 | his brother, Terry Garbo; and many other loved ones; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
17 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | ||||||
18 | Interstate 64 between mile marker 128 and 132 as the "DEA | ||||||
19 | Special Agent Michael Garbo Memorial Highway"; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |

1 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
2 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
3 | giving notice of the name "DEA Special Agent Michael Garbo | ||||||
4 | Memorial Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Special Agent Garbo and the | ||||||
7 | Secretary of Transportation.
