HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Larry R. Rogers Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Larry Rogers was a native of Chicago; he graduated from St. Xavier College and DePaul University College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Larry Rogers had a prolific career as one of the top litigators in Chicago, dedicating more than 37 years to representing victims in personal injury, malpractice, aviation accident, wrongful death, and motor vehicle negligence cases; he obtained numerous multimillion-dollar verdicts and recoveries for his clients in a multitude of cases, including a then-record-breaking $27 million product liability verdict for his client, which in 1985 was the largest personal injury verdict in Illinois history, and a $55 million verdict for a client, which was the largest medical malpractice verdict that went to judgment in Illinois history in 2000; he became one of the founding partners of Power Rogers, LLP in 2001, where he continued to successfully serve and represent his clients; and

WHEREAS, Larry Rogers was elected president of both the Cook County Bar Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, where he was the first African American president; he served as a member of the Advisory Board for Leading Lawyers Network; he was also a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Larry Rogers received numerous honors over the years, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Xavier University and the Alumni Award for Outstanding Service to the Legal Profession from DePaul University College of Law, and his alma maters additionally awarded him honorary doctorate degrees; he was listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 2001; he was named a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers, and the American College of Trial Lawyers; he was named one of the 2019 Best Lawyers and Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Litigation in Chicago in 2016 and 2019; he named as one of the top trial lawyers by Lawdragon, a group that annually selects the top 500 trial lawyers in the country; he was also nominated by his peers as a leading lawyer in personal injury law for the Leading Lawyer Network; and

WHEREAS, Larry Rogers was a wonderful father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and human being; he will be remembered for being a trailblazer in the law and in life; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Larry R. Rogers Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Larry Rogers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
