HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Marie Sklodowska Curie 
4Metropolitan High School for being named the World's Best 
5School Supporting Healthy Lives in an international 
6competition sponsored by T4, a nonprofit organization focused 
7on connecting teachers from around the world to improve 
8education globally and share best practices; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The competition seeks to find schools that are 
10making tangible impacts on the lives of students and the wider 
11community, and schools are judged on their vision,

12programming, and resources to support healthy student lives; 
13specifically, the best school award recognizes the school's 
14Behavioral Health Team and its use of
the fine arts curriculum 
15to enrich students' lives and address mental health issues; 
16and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Curie Metropolitan High School is the only U.S. 
18school to win this award, which is sponsored by T4 in 
19partnership with American Express and Accenture,  and win an 
20accompanying $50,000 grant
from T4 Education; the panel of 200 
21judges were impressed with the school's robust arts 
22programming and its focus on supporting students; and

1    WHEREAS, Curie Metropolitan High School is a public 
2four–year magnet high
school located in the Archer Heights 
3neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago; it serves 
4nearly 3,000 students and is the third
largest high school in 
5the Chicago Public School system; and
  
 
  
6    WHEREAS, The award is a testament to the engaging work of 
7the faculty, staff, and administrators to
provide students 
8with mental health supports, wraparound services, and art 
9enrichment
programs; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we congratulate Marie Sklodowska Curie Metropolitan High 
13School for being named the World's Best School Supporting 
14Healthy Lives; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Curie Metropolitan High School Principal Homero 
17Peñuelas, Ed.D.
