2 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad Diebold, FSC, was born in | ||||||
3 | Minneapolis to Laura and Joseph Diebold on June 22, 1937; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad joined the Brothers of the | ||||||
5 | Christian Schools in 1957 at the age of 20; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad received his Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
7 | 1961 and his master's degree in Education in 1966 from St. | ||||||
8 | Mary's University of Minnesota; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad also took graduate courses at | ||||||
10 | Loyola University, DePaul University, and Northwestern | ||||||
11 | University in addition to studying at the Université de | ||||||
12 | Montréal, L'Alliance Française in Paris and the Lasallian | ||||||
13 | Institute Center in Rome; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad began teaching at St. Patrick High | ||||||
15 | School on Chicago's northwest side in 1961 and transferred to | ||||||
16 | St. Paul High School on the south side in 1966, where he taught | ||||||
17 | and was principal through 1974; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Following his time at St. Paul's, Brother Konrad | ||||||
19 | was the high school Curriculum Consultant with the | ||||||
20 | Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Education and was then called |

| |||||||
1 | to province leadership for the Christian Brothers as Auxiliary | ||||||
2 | Provincial from 1975 through 1982, where he worked as the | ||||||
3 | Director of Finance and Director of Education for all Province | ||||||
4 | entities; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad returned to St. Patrick High | ||||||
6 | School after a year of sabbatical and study in Europe, | ||||||
7 | primarily in Paris and Rome; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad began serving as principal of St. | ||||||
9 | Patrick High School in 1983 and was named the first president | ||||||
10 | of St. Patrick in 1987; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad also served on many boards, | ||||||
12 | councils, and associations with almost all being related to | ||||||
13 | education and being mission-driven; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, In his 50th year as a Brother of the Christian | ||||||
15 | Schools and in acknowledgment of his educational and | ||||||
16 | administrative leadership, Lewis University conferred on | ||||||
17 | Brother Konrad a doctoral degree in Humanities, Honoris Causa, | ||||||
18 | in December 2007; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Six years later in 2013, Brother Konrad retired | ||||||
20 | but returned as a substitute English teacher in October of | ||||||
21 | 2022; and

1 | WHEREAS, Brother Konrad passed away on October 10th, 2022 | ||||||
2 | after decades of devoted service and commitment to his | ||||||
3 | communities and schools; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, In a demonstration of how beloved Brother Konrad | ||||||
5 | was at St. Patrick's High School, the day after Brother Konrad | ||||||
6 | died, all of the students attended school in a shirt and tie to | ||||||
7 | honor him; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
9 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
10 | we recognize and honor the life of Brother Konrad Diebold, | ||||||
11 | FSC, his contributions to education, and the institutions | ||||||
12 | where he served in his esteemed career, answering the call to | ||||||
13 | service one last time in the final days of his life; and be it | ||||||
14 | further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to President Dan Santucci of St. Patrick's High | ||||||
17 | School as an expression of our grief and to uphold the legacy | ||||||
18 | of Brother Konrad Diebold.
