HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon and the many volunteers serving the Angels on Assignment mission; and

WHEREAS, In 1991, Betty Lipps felt called to serve her fellow citizens, initiating the creation of Angels on Assignment; she organized volunteers to carry out her vision of helping individuals and families struggling to survive in tough economic times; and

WHEREAS, Since that time, thousands of volunteers have worked tirelessly to make life better for the people of Jefferson County and the entire region of Southern Illinois for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment helps to provide financial aid, food, clothing, and shelter to individuals and families in need; and

WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment's food pantry is its most well-known ministry, garnering support from the Central Food Bank and Midwest Mission Distribution; and

WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment additionally runs a thrift store, which helps support the food bank and is made possible by members of the public, who play a vital role by donating items that are sold at the store and by volunteering to clean, sort, and sell clothes at the store; and

WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment's volunteers participate in many other charitable activities throughout the year and contribute their time, effort, and resources to a number of great causes, including bell ringing for the Salvation Army during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons; and

WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment has been led by Executive Directors Betty Lipps, Carol Thomas, and Anne Bothe; and

WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment and its dedicated volunteers have served thousands of people and families in need since its inception; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon for their years of dedicated volunteer service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we recognize and thank the volunteers of Angels on Assignment for their tireless work to make life better for the less fortunate and for serving the people of Mount Vernon, Jefferson County, and Southern Illinois for more than 30 years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we further recognize Executive Directors Betty Lipps, Carol Thomas, and Anne Bothe of Angels of Assignment for their leadership and commitment to the organization's efforts; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon and Angels on Assignment as an expression of our esteem and respect.
