2 | WHEREAS, In the early years of the 20th century, the area | ||||||
3 | now called Norridge had small truck farms, and in the 1930s and | ||||||
4 | 1940s, it became a place with many riding stables, being near | ||||||
5 | the forest preserves; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, On December 4th, 1948, a referendum incorporated | ||||||
7 | Norridge with 1,675 residents and 80 acres of area that was | ||||||
8 | bounded by Irving Park Road (originally Plank Road), Ozanam | ||||||
9 | Avenue (originally Phillips Road), Montrose Avenue, and Harlem | ||||||
10 | Avenue; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The village doubled in size in 1954, and the | ||||||
12 | population grew from 1,675 at incorporation to 15,251 in the | ||||||
13 | 2020 census; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, A resident suggested the name "Norridge," with | ||||||
15 | "Nor" from Norwood Park Township and "Ridge" from nearby Park | ||||||
16 | Ridge; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The first Village Board of Norridge was elected | ||||||
18 | in February 1949 with Karl A. Kuchar as the village's first | ||||||
19 | president, followed by Joseph Sieb being appointed president | ||||||
20 | in November 1951 and serving in that position for 46 years | ||||||
21 | until his death in 1998; and

1 | WHEREAS, After years of village board meetings in Village | ||||||
2 | Clerk Harold Dierkes' home and public meetings in the Norwood | ||||||
3 | Park volunteer fire house, Norridge Village Hall was | ||||||
4 | constructed in 1954 and housed the Mayor and Village Clerk's | ||||||
5 | offices and the Police Department office; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The new village hall was dedicated in October of | ||||||
7 | 1990 at the corner of Irving Park Road and Olcott Avenue; the | ||||||
8 | original village hall was converted into an exclusive police | ||||||
9 | facility; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The Norridge Youth Activities (originally the | ||||||
11 | Youth Activities of Norridge) was established in June of 1954 | ||||||
12 | with the purpose of "social and recreational in the | ||||||
13 | furtherance of which to have power to promote athletic | ||||||
14 | activities for the youth of the Village of Norridge"; the | ||||||
15 | organization was given national recognition with a plaque from | ||||||
16 | President John F. Kennedy and Presidential Assistant Ralph H. | ||||||
17 | Dungeon; and

18 | WHEREAS, Not to be confused with the English community of | ||||||
19 | Norwich (pronounced "Noritch"), Norridge is the only community | ||||||
20 | in the world with that name; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, With terrific schools, infrastructure, and |

1 | community, Norridge is a phenomenal place to work, live, and | ||||||
2 | raise a family; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we recognize the approaching 75th anniversary of the Village | ||||||
6 | of Norridge and congratulate all residents and village | ||||||
7 | officials on this momentous occasion of over half a century of | ||||||
8 | incorporation; and be it further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | delivered to Norridge Village President Daniel Tannhauser, | ||||||
11 | Village Clerk Gabriela Krasinski, Trustee Donald Gelsomino, | ||||||
12 | Trustee Bill Larson, Trustee Jack Bielak, Trustee Andrew | ||||||
13 | Ronstadt, Trustee Debra J. Budnik, and Trustee Frank Avino Jr. | ||||||
14 | to congratulate them on this significant anniversary and to | ||||||
15 | wish them further years of success.
