2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert | ||||||
4 | W. "Bob" Vose of Springfield, who passed away on February 20, | ||||||
5 | 2023; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was born to John and Hedwig (Krebs) Vose | ||||||
7 | in Springfield on January 19, 1929; he attended Sacred Heart | ||||||
8 | Grade School and Lanphier High School; he served in the U.S. | ||||||
9 | Army; he married Virginia Vetter at Saints Peter & Paul Church | ||||||
10 | in Springfield on May 2, 1953; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose worked for the Illinois Ice Company, | ||||||
12 | delivering ice for many years before becoming a City Water, | ||||||
13 | Light, and Power meter reader, and later a stationary engineer | ||||||
14 | for the State of Illinois; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was well known as "The Korndog King"; he | ||||||
16 | and his brothers initially started selling Vose Corn Dogs at | ||||||
17 | the Illinois State Fair in 1966; he and his wife, Virginia, | ||||||
18 | continued Vose Fine Food for over 50 years; visiting the Vose | ||||||
19 | Family Corn Dog stand continues to be a statewide annual | ||||||
20 | tradition during the Illinois State Fair; he was given the | ||||||
21 | Illinoisan of the Day Award in 2011 by the Illinois State Fair | ||||||
22 | and was honored to be a grand marshal at the fair in 2017; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a proud and active citizen, serving | ||||||
2 | his country and his beloved city; he was the first city | ||||||
3 | alderman elected to represent Ward 5 and continued to be an | ||||||
4 | advocate for his ward and its residents long after his term of | ||||||
5 | service expired; he was a member of the Oak Ridge Cemetery | ||||||
6 | Foundation and was active in fundraising for the cemetery and | ||||||
7 | responsible for Monument Avenue beautification improvements; | ||||||
8 | and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a generous man and donated his time, | ||||||
10 | treasure, and talents to many local causes throughout his | ||||||
11 | life; he loved playing the role of Santa Claus at the city | ||||||
12 | recreation department and was a referee and umpire of high | ||||||
13 | school sports for several years; he sponsored the annual | ||||||
14 | Goodwill client Halloween and Christmas parties for 34 years; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a member of IBEW Local 193 for over | ||||||
17 | 65 years; he was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic | ||||||
18 | Church and a proud north ender; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
20 | his wife, Virginia; four brothers; and six sisters; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose is survived by his children, Robert Vose |

1 | Jr., Virginia (Mike) Geiger, Ronald (MaryBeth) Vose, Kenneth | ||||||
2 | (Roxann) Vose, Debra Vose, and Sandra (Robert) Orr; 14 | ||||||
3 | grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Harold | ||||||
4 | (Jean) Vose; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
6 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
7 | we mourn the passing of Robert W. "Bob" Vose and extend our | ||||||
8 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
9 | and loved him; and be it further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Bob Vose as an expression of our | ||||||
12 | deepest sympathy.
