| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish |
| 3 | | to congratulate Gerald C. "Jerry" Blazey, Ph.D., on his |
| 4 | | numerous career accomplishments as he retires from his roles |
| 5 | | as Vice President for Research and Innovation Partnerships of |
| 6 | | Northern Illinois University and as Chair of the Illinois |
| 7 | | Innovation Network Council; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Blazey has dedicated his career to discovery |
| 9 | | in the field of particle physics and innovation to address |
| 10 | | complex societal problems; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Blazey has served Northern Illinois |
| 12 | | University for more than 25 years in a number of roles in |
| 13 | | addition to his current position; in 2000, he was awarded a |
| 14 | | Presidential Research Professorship, the university's highest |
| 15 | | honor for outstanding research; he was later named a |
| 16 | | presidential science advisor; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Blazey has played a crucial role in |
| 18 | | organizing, launching, and leading the Illinois Innovation |
| 19 | | Network and its Council since the organization was founded in |
| 20 | | 2018; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Blazey has stood as a leader in national |

| 1 | | science policy, having served as a senior policy advisor at |
| 2 | | the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive |
| 3 | | Office of the U.S. President and the Office of Science of the |
| 4 | | U.S. Department of Energy; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Dr. Blazey has |
| 6 | | upheld collaboration as a requirement for progress and |
| 7 | | innovation, across disciplines and institutions, and is a |
| 8 | | tireless advocate for sustainability and preserving our |
| 9 | | natural environment; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Blazey remains a fierce supporter of |
| 11 | | underserved students, under-resourced universities, and the |
| 12 | | enhancement of equity and effectiveness in science; therefore, |
| 13 | | be it

| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 15 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 16 | | we congratulate Gerald C. "Jerry" Blazey, Ph.D., on his |
| 17 | | numerous career accomplishments as he retires from his roles |
