HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of River Grove in recognition of its 135 years of establishment; and

WHEREAS, In the 1829 Treaty of Prairie du Chien, Claude LaFramboise received land alongside the Des Plaines River, encompassing most of what in 1888 would become River Grove, the "Village of Friendly Neighbors"; and

WHEREAS, In 1833, LaFramboise sold the northern half of the land to his sister and the other to Jesse Walker, which is now the site of Triton College; and

WHEREAS, In 1834, Jesse Walker and his son-in-law, David Everett, erected a bridge crossing the Des Plaines River along an Indian trail that would become Grand Avenue, which was a stagecoach line used to take passengers from Chicago to Galena; and

WHEREAS, Through a century of progress, River Grove experienced a hotel being built for travelers, the naming of Turner Park, the construction of the Rhodes subdivision, the establishment of a school and churches, and the incorporation of additional areas into the village; and

WHEREAS, In 1964, Triton College was founded on River Grove's southern border; and

WHEREAS, Proud of the village's vast amount of verdure, River Grove is home to 350 acres of forest preserve, 290 acres of golf courses and cemeteries, 35 acres of public school property, and six acres of parkland; and

WHEREAS, River Grove is also home to Gene and Jude's and has been for over 70 years, and the restaurant consistently ranks as one of the top producers of Chicago-style hot dogs as well as the "Depression Dog"; and

WHEREAS, Originally the Italianate-style home of Frederick Dohrmann, the River Grove Historic House & Barn is now a museum to show how people lived in River Grove in the late 19th century, connecting River Grove residents and visitors with the village's past; and

WHEREAS, River Grove is rich with culture thanks to its German, Irish, Italian, Polish, and Latino residents, and the village connects every summer with River Front Fest at River Front Park; and

WHEREAS, River Grove will celebrate its 135 years as a village in 2023, marking an historic occasion and celebration for all residents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Village of River Grove in recognition of 135 years of establishment; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Village President David B. Guerin, Village Clerk Marjorie A. Manchen, Trustee Lynn M. Bjorvik, Trustee Christopher J. Lilly, Trustee Michele M. Obaya, Trustee Robert C. Thomas, Trustee Lora M. Lantgen, and Trustee Benjamin E. Ramirez as an expression of our esteem and respect.
