| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Whitney K. Siehl on her | ||||||
| 4 | installation as President of the Women's Bar Association of | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois (WBAI); and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The WBAI was first established in 1914 by nine | ||||||
| 7 | women lawyers practicing in the Chicago metropolitan area; it | ||||||
| 8 | is one of the oldest and largest bar associations in the State | ||||||
| 9 | of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The WBAI serves as an influential voice in | ||||||
| 11 | promoting the interests and welfare of women in the law, | ||||||
| 12 | offering mentorship and networking opportunities, career | ||||||
| 13 | advice, and events that promote and empower women leaders; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl is an associate attorney with | ||||||
| 15 | Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, LLP, serving as a plaintiffs' | ||||||
| 16 | litigator focused on class actions in the areas of sexual | ||||||
| 17 | abuse, sexual harassment, antitrust, mass torts, consumer | ||||||
| 18 | protection, environmental, and sports law; her notable | ||||||
| 19 | settlements include an over $17 million fund for survivors of | ||||||
| 20 | Harvey Weinstein's sexual abuse, a $215 million fund for USC | ||||||
| 21 | student survivors of sexual abuse by gynecologist Dr. Tyndall, | ||||||
| 22 | and millions of dollars for college students in contract | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | disputes and children with birth injuries; she also represents | ||||||
| 2 | college students and consumers in COVID-19 refund litigation, | ||||||
| 3 | workers in wage-fixing antitrust matters, and athletes in | ||||||
| 4 | concussion litigation, among other cases; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl previously worked as a legal aide | ||||||
| 6 | to Ohio State Representative Teresa Fedor, working on H.B. | ||||||
| 7 | 262, the Safe Harbor for Child Victims of Human Trafficking | ||||||
| 8 | legislation, which was signed into law in 2012; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl earned her Juris Doctor from The | ||||||
| 10 | Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law, where she was a | ||||||
| 11 | member of the 2013 Sutherland Cup National Champion | ||||||
| 12 | Constitutional Law Moot Court Team and served as president of | ||||||
| 13 | the Women's Legal Society; she graduated from Northwestern | ||||||
| 14 | University and was a member of the women's golf team; she was | ||||||
| 15 | named an NCAA Academic All-American with the Miami University | ||||||
| 16 | women's cross country and track teams; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl has chaired the WBAI Annual Golf | ||||||
| 18 | Outing since 2015 and hosts numerous clinics teaching women to | ||||||
| 19 | golf; she enjoys volunteer marathon pace coaching and has | ||||||
| 20 | completed numerous triathlons and marathons; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Every year since 2019, Whitney Siehl has been | ||||||
| 22 | recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Illinois; prior | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | to that, she received an Award for Excellence in Pro Bono | ||||||
| 2 | Service from the United States District Court for the Northern | ||||||
| 3 | District of Illinois in 2017; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl is honored to serve the WBAI, and | ||||||
| 5 | her persistent focus on justice for women has enhanced her | ||||||
| 6 | ability to advocate for WBAI's members every day; her theme | ||||||
| 7 | for the 2023-2024 bar year is Together We Succeed, with a | ||||||
| 8 | strong focus on mentoring and collaboration; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl will be installed as the 2023-2024 | ||||||
| 10 | President of the WBAI at its 109th Annual Installation Dinner | ||||||
| 11 | and Awards Gala at The Field Museum on May 31, 2023; therefore, | ||||||
| 12 | be it

| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Whitney K. Siehl on her installation as | ||||||
| 16 | President of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois and wish | ||||||
| 17 | her all the best in her new position; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Whitney Siehl as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
